To have and to maintain long, lustrous hair one must learn to take care of the hair well. If you will give it regular care and attention, you will be amazed with the results – a healthy, shining and beautiful hair which will be the envy of every girl you meet on the way. But before you tackle your hair, you must know your hair type. There are six types : dry hair, oily hair, split hair, falling hair, grey hair and sparse hair. Once you know the kind of hair you have you can give yourself the right treatment designed for your type of hair. 1. Hair Care Tips for Dry Hair
Rough, dry hair is mostly the outcome of overuse of perms, hair color and hair sprays or over-exposure to oil stealers like the sun, salt, air and sea water. One of the best beauty tips for hair to treat dry hair is a regular oil massage. Take either some warm coconut or olive oil and dab it along each parting with your fingertips. Continue in this way until the whole scalp has been oiled. Then, massage your head vigorously for five minutes to ensure a thorough spreading of oil. Two hours later, wash your head with shikakai.
To make your own homemade shikakai shampoo at home, take a cup of shikakai seeds and boil them in six cups of water until the seeds soften. Allow them to cool, then rub the shikakai between your hands till it turns frothy. Strain through a muslin cloth and use it instead of shampoo for washing your hair.
Another home remedy for treating dry hair is to soak a big lump of multani mitti (Fuller’s earth) in a big cup of water. When it softens and becomes a paste, add to it two tablespoons of warm coconut oil. Rub it gently into your scalp with your fingertips and later wash it off with plenty of water. This treatment is a great cure of dry hair. Even massaging a beaten egg blended with one tablespoon each of lime juice and coconut oil half an hour before going in for your head bath proves effective in combating a dry scalp. To treat an oily scalp, wash your head with multani mitti (Fuller’s earth) and warm water. Soak a big lump of multani mitti in a glass of warm water and when it softens, add to it the juice of a big sour lime. Rub it in your scalp and wash off with plenty of water. This not only removes extra oil from the head but proves very cooling to the head especially in the burning hot summers. Gram flour too is a good oil-remover like multani mitti and is used in the same way as multani mitti. Another good cooling agent is curd. Take a cup of curd and whisk it till it turns watery. Apply it with your fingertips to your hair roots. Leave on for 15 minutes, then rub your head vigorously with your fingertips till the scalp tingles. Wash off with shikakai and water. These hair care beauty tips are assuredly going to make your hair long, lustrous and soft.
3. Hair Care Tips for Falling Hair
The best remedy for falling hair is to wash them with reetha or ritha nuts. Soak 250 grams of ritha nuts in four glasses of water in the night. Next morning, boil them for 15 minutes, cool, mash and then strain out the water. Wash your hair with this at least twice a week if you want to see the results. One of the main reasons of falling hair is poor diet. Other causes are hereditary constitutional defects, prolonged illness of certain types (like typhoid), pregnancy and menopause, too much exposure to sun and unclean scalp.
4. Hair Care Tips for Split Hair
Trim split ends every month. This prevents the split from reaching up the hair shaft and this also stops the further breakage and damage to the hair. Give your hair a daily massage with a little coconut oil or almond oil. Massage the oil into your scalp with your fingertips until you feel a warm tingling flow of blood in your scalp. Brush the hair for about 10 minutes daily with a brush which should have natural bristles closely set and resilient enough to give a good tug. But it should not be stiff or pointed as it will injure the scalp and split the hair.
5. Hair Care Tips for Sparse Hair
The best treatment for this type of hair is to make partings in your hair and dab in fresh unboiled cow’s milk lavishly. Take hair-bath after an hour or so. Do this twice a week. Also, give your scalp a good massage with your fingertips for five minutes daily.
6. Hair Care Tips for Grey Hair
Greying of hair in many cases is hereditary. Sometimes it is due to emotional disturbances, sudden shock, threat of sudden death or great sorrow. Thyroid gland gland disturbances can also be a reason. Worry, anxiety, mental disturbances and other local skin diseases of the scalp can also cause greying. However, there are a few things which can be done to help stop or even remove the greying process. Warm castor oil and apply it over the scalp nicely with your fingertips. Then grip both the sides of your scalp over the ears and massage with your fingers and thumbs for at least 15 minutes. Then go to bed and in the morning, have your head-bath. Besides, you can improve the color of your hair by taking one kilo castor oil and one ounce each of ground coffee and powdered sandalwood. heat for 20 minutes, strain and keep in a bottle. Massage well with this oil overnight and take your bath in the morning.
Another good remedy for improving the color of your hair is to take one tablespoon each of mehendi, amla powder and tea leaves and put it in a cup of hot water. Also, mix in one-fourth teaspoon of salt and juice of one lime and half teaspoon of rose water, Leave for five hours, then strain and apply nicely on the hair roots. Leave on for two hours and then rinse with plenty of water. Do this and your hair will never turn grey.
