Fashion Inspiration from Bollywood Movie Devdas : Nostalgia, Flashback, Throwback

Let’s admit it, that Bollywood is the ultimate source of fashion inspiration in India. Whether it’s a Bollywood movie or a song, they set the trends and we blindly follow it. Don’t we love those stylish and elegant designer pieces that the actors flaunt to entice us? We must say that we are more than bewitched especially with this Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit starrer epic film “ Devdas ” in 2002.

How can we forget those lux drapes flaunted by the former Miss world Aishwarya Rai and the colorful wardrobe of the ethereal beauty Madhuri Dixit? Designed by Neeta Lulla, the celebrated fashion designer who has also stunned us with her jaw-dropping creations for some other great movies, once again created a marvel with the vintage look in Devdas.

Madhuri Dixit’s Costumes in Devdas : While it was a great movie by Sanjay Leela Bhansali with some phenomenal star cast, what we especially loved are the brilliant designs and the dazzling costumes that the ladies flaunted in the film. Apart from the fact that Madhuri looked breathtaking in all scenes and mesmerized us with her dancing skills, her gorgeous style statement in the film was what caught our attention.

Madhuri

Portraying the character of a courtesan dancer in the movie, Chandramukhi, Madhuri looked resplendent in the exquisite lehenga cholis and the ultra-feminine anarkalis that she donned in each of the scenes and song sequences. While we could not help but goggle at that earthy toned super shiny and heavily embroidered mirror lehenga paired with an elegant piece of sheer dupatta for her first look in the film, but that fresh green embellished anarkali was simply a trend setter of that time. The zari work on the neckline and on the arms simply took our breath away!

Madhuri and Aishwarya’s Costumes in Devdas Songs : The dazzling red zardosi lehenga balanced with equally jazzy ornaments in the song “Kahe Ched Ched Mohe” was a talk of the town. The “Dola Re” song on the occasion of Durga Puja on other hand was the clear winner with the classic red and white Bengali saree. The added shine and the Neeta Lulla touch imparted a drop dead gorgeous look to both the ladies, Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai.

Aishwarya Rai’s Costumes in Devdas : Words will be less to describe when talking of the beauty queen Ashwarya Rai who portrayed the character of Paro. The timeless beauty looked breath-taking in the traditional Bengali sarees like, Dhakai and the plain cotton which the designer handpicked from Kolkata, and mixed & matched them to culminate into a unique look. Paro was all spruced up in Sarees that were adorned by classic motifs and printed borders that included fine embroidery like, Kantha stitch, conventional borders with stripes or checks all over.

Then we saw Paro in the traditional Bengali drapes with that added yardage. While we loved her additional length of pallu, she looked striking in those puff-sleeved blouses and accessories that created a vintage look. The huge bindi complemented the heavily embellished Sarees and imparted an understated glamor to her entire look. Dhakai lattice, Banarasi tissue, Lucknowi exquisite Chikankari, Chinese brocade, Jamevars, vintage brocade, Muslins and organzas formed fabrics and technique of Paro’s costumes. The entire look was inspired from the 1930’s that we oh so loved!

Kiron Kher’s Costumes in Devdas : Kiron Kher’s wardrobe too was no less than the two leading ladies. We simply loved those backless cholis and the gorgeous sarees that spelled feminism and highlighted her artistic leaning every bit.

Devdas was a spectacle to watch out for not just for its story or the star cast, but the real protagonist of this film was indeed the eye catching vintage designs that took our heart away.

Alia Bhatt in Payal Singhal Looks So So Pretty in Pink!

Alia Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra were in the pink city of Jaipur to promote their movie, Kapoor and Sons. And both of them chose to wear pink! Isn’t that super cute of them! Alia Bhatt wore a pretty Indian suit designed by Payal Singhal, which she paired with nude strappy heels. We like the choice of Dhoti Pants instead of a regular salwar! Minimum accessories, minimal make-up and a simple braided hair do completed the look. She looked very pretty. With just one more day to go, I am sure Alia is very excited about her movie! We are, too! 😀
